That time I lost $20 and it came back to me (underwater in the Caribbean — you can’t make this stuff up)
This happened years ago, but I never forgot it. I worked at AT&T — big building, with large bathrooms. I needed to go buy lunch, but first stopped at the bathroom. I grabbed a $20 bill from my purse and carried it into the bathroom. Did not have pockets, so I put the folded $20 on the metal toilet paper holder. After I was done, I left the stall, washed my hands, and went to the cafeteria to buy lunch. I had to take the elevator down like 5 floors. When I got to the bottom, I realized I didn’t have my money.
Cursing my stupidity, I stayed in the elevator and pushed the close door button. When I got back to the Ladies’ room, the money was already gone. I couldn’t believe how fast it happened!
I was irritated and felt really stupid. I figured it was my fault and went and got more money for lunch. I did send an email out to my department and said I had left an unspecified amount of money in the ladies room if anyone finds it, but the thief did not confess.
Soon after this, my boyfriend (now husband) Rich and I left for St. John, part of the U.S. Virgin Islands, to go camping. On the second day there, a bunch of tourists flooded our campground beach and it was pretty busy. They came to explore St. John and the fun little…
