That one summer everyone asked me stuff

I had one summer several years ago where I had everyone it seemed asking me things. It was kind of fun once I noticed it. Not sure what I was giving off, did I look like I knew things?

The first time it happened was in the grocery store. I was hanging out in the produce section and a women looked over at me and asked “Do you know the difference between a sweet potato and a yam?”

I just answered naturally, “I know they are different, but I am not sure why.” “Oh,” she said, “ I always wondered.” “Me too,” I said.

Of course now I Google stuff all the time and know the difference:

“In the United States, the terms “yam” and “sweet potato” are used interchangeably, but they are completely different vegetables. Yams are starchy and have a rough, brown exterior. … Sweet potatoes are a New World root vegetable, have a softer, reddish skin, a creamier interior, and often, a darker interior.”

But I thought it was interesting that she thought I might know. I don’t think she thought I worked there. I wondered if I somehow looked more approachable and knowledgeable for some reason?

The next time that summer that I was asked something was even wilder. We live on a street that is right near a railroad trestle underpass and it’s too low for big trucks. Inevitably…
