I used to read email on usenet using a 9600 Baud dialup modem! I had a terminal -- hahahah. It was before the PC was commercially available. No one I knew had email. Only the computer center nerds at Rutgers and other colleges and some Defense cos (Arpanet). Those days were so different! And no graphics on the WWW!
